What do I need to use the chat?
You need a fast Internet connection (preferably cable, ADSL, etc.). The recommended configuration of your PC: at least a Pentium 3GHz (or comparable speed). One of the following web browsers:
- Internet Explorer (from version 5.5)
- Netscape Navigator (version 6 through 7)
- Mozilla Firefox (from version 1.0.4)
Noncompatible browsers:
- Opera (all versions) - The communication between flash and the Web page has been disabled by Opera. This makes sending/receiving QMs impossible.
- Netscape Navigator version 8. This program is based on beta version of Mozilla Firefox and has too many bugs which causes the flash player to fail.
- Pop-up blockers and anti-advertising settings can stop Quick Messages (Qm's) from arriving.
- Download accelerators disrupt receiving sounds, this prevents the chat and the QM Windows from fully loading, which means that no connection can be made to the chat server. If you use a Download Accelerator you must disable it, or stop it from taking over the download of *.mp3 file types from your webbrowser.
What is a Quick Message (QM) and how do I use it?
To send a message to other people, or to invite them to a private chat session, go to the "who is online" page and click on the [QM] icon. A messenger screen appears where you can enter your text. There are 3 buttons at the bottom of the page: [Cancel] [QM] [CHAT]. Press [QM] to send somebody a single message. After sending a QM the editor will dissapear automatically. Or press [Chat] to send the message as an invitation for a private chat session.
The Messenger is active on each page of the Be Collared Web site as a little green button in the upper left corner. When a message arrives for you, it shows up as a small sub window, at the bottom left inside the web page. You can continue using the Web site while you are chatting. It is also possible to use more than one messenger window simultaneously. It is also possible to disable the QM service through the Chat page if you want to quietly browse the website.
How do I stop receiving Quick Messages?
If you do not want to receive any QM's then you can disable the QM service through the chat page.
How do I use my WebCam in the chat?
You can use the built-in WebCam function during private chats but not in the public chatroom. Open the Message Editor as if you were going to send a QM. Type the message and press the [Chat] button. When the private chat window opens you will see a WebCam button in the lower right (just above the "send" button). Press this to start your WebCam. Press this again to close your WebCam.
